📖 Taking Root Among the Living: Representations of the Refugee in Octavia E. Butler’s Parables
“This Open Seminar aims to present the research I have been conducting in my PhD concerning the fiction of Octavia E. Butler. It is my intention to describe the paths of readings and research that led me to narrow down my main objectives. The presentation, then, aims to discuss the proposed investigation which is focused on the representation of the refugee in Octavia E. Butler’s science fiction duology Parable of the Sower (1993) and Parable of the Talents (1998). Besides making public the research I carried out to this point, I aim to outline the next steps to conduct the analysis, as well as to present main concepts to guide the investigation”.
