We present descriptions of the events promoted by PPGI below
PPGI Lecture
PPGI Lecture is an open, public event, in which faculty members (internal or external to the Program) or post-doctorate researchers are invited by the coordination and/or faculty members to give a lecture on a topic related to the Program’s areas of concentration and research tracks with a titled defined by the lecturer. It is organized by the coordination and/or a faculty member, with 20 to 50 minute-long presentations followed by interaction with the public. Lectures may occurr at any time of the year, in and day and time, promoted on the program’s webpage.
PPGI Lecture – End of Year Talks
PPGI Lecture – End of Year Talks (ou Year-End Talks) is an annual event, restrict to PPGI members, in which faculty members from both areas of concentration present lectures on topics related to the Program’s areas of concentration and research tracks with a titled defined by the lecturer. The presentations last between 20 and 40 minutes each, followed by interaction with the public. Date and time of the event are announced on the program’s webpage. This event has a registration process for participation, with a limited number of places, and with certificates issued to participants.
Open Seminar
Open Seminar, a curriculum requirement for the doctoral degree, is an open, public event in which the results of candidates’ independent studies and readings guided by the supervisors are presented, with the goal of deepening knowledge in the field in which the candidates carry out their research. It is organized by each candidate and held in lecture style. The event’s deadline is the end of the candidate’s third semester in the doctoral degree, and must last between 30 to 40 minutes, followed by interaction with the public.
Doctoral Studies in Progress
Doctoral Studies in Progress, a curriculum requirement for the doctoral degree, is an open, public event in which doctoral degree candidates must present, untill the 33th month after admission, the study’s current state. It is organized by the Coordination and/or candidates, with presentations that must last between 15 to 20 minutes, followed by interaction with the public and/or supervisor (5 to 10 minutes).
Research Festival
Research Festival, a curriculum requirement for the Master’s degree, is an open, public event in which Master’s degree candidates must present their current readings and research project, with presentations that must last up to 15 minutes, followed by interaction with the public (5 to 10 minutes). It is organized by the candidates and by the faculty members that are currently teaching the courses Research in Linguistic Studies and Research in Literary Studies. It is held before the end of the of the second semester of each year.
Seminário Experiências do Doutorado Sanduíche
Seminário Experiências do Doutorado Sanduiche is an open, public event in which doctoral degree candidates who have been part of a Sandwich Doctorate program share their experiences as doctoral candidates in foreign universities, in lecture style. It is organized by the Coordination and/or by candidates themselves, with individual presentations lasting between 20 to 30 minutes, followed by interaction with the public (10 to 20 minutes).
Seminário Experiências de Pós-Doutorado
eminário Experiências de Pós-Doutorado is an open, public event in which doctors currently carrying out post-doctoral research at PPGI share, in lecture style, their experiences and research at PPGI. It is organized by the Coordination or the doctors themselves, with individual presentations lasting between 20 to 30 minutes, followed by interaction with the public (10 to 30 minutes).
PPGI Workshop
PPGI Workshop is an event restric to PPGI members that demand registration with a maximum number of attendees allowed. It is organized and taught by the Program’s students or faculty members to develop specific abilities and/or knowledge related to the Program’s demands and/or areas of concentration. Each workshop is composed of 01 to 04 modules of 02 hours each, according to their specifics.
Dissertation Defense
Dissertation Defense is an open, public event, with a presentation of the dissertation’s general contents, for up to 30 minutes, and an argument by the members of the committee, with up to 20 minutes for each member and up to 10 minutes of answers by the candidate, with a deadline of no later than the end of the 48th month after admission, in accordance with the Program’s regulations and UFSC’s rules.
Thesis Defense
Thesis Defense is an open, public event, with a presentation of its general contents, for up to 20 minutes, and an argument by the members of the committee, with up to 20 minutes for each member, with a deadline of no later than the end of the 24th month after admission, in accordance with the Program’s regulations and UFSC’s rules.
