The project “Internationalization at UFSC: Glocal Strategies for Implementing Teaching in English and Developing Intercultural Competence” aims to support the use of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) at UFSC and to foster intercultural competence among lecturers and students. The project begins with an exploratory needs analysis involving lecturers and graduate program coordinators across UFSC’s graduate programs, in order to map perceptions, challenges, and opportunities related to EMI.

Based on this analysis, the project will design training modules and pedagogical interventions focusing on EMI pedagogy, academic English, and intercultural skills, combined with continuous mentoring and support for faculty. Innovative resources such as artificial intelligence for academic writing and virtual reality for intercultural communication will also be incorporated into the methodology.

The outcomes are expected to contribute to improving teaching practices and students’ learning experiences in EMI contexts, to inform UFSC’s internationalization strategies, and to provide replicable guidelines for other Brazilian universities. Ultimately, the project seeks to ensure that the adoption of EMI at UFSC is effective, inclusive, and aligned with the preparation of students for global academic and professional environments.
