Summary:
What place does genre filmmaking, with its associations of escapist entertainment and the Hollywood mainstream, have within national filmmaking? Can minor cinemas successfully make genre films and market them globally, and can they inflect global practices? Or is arthouse cinema a better fit with national cinemas?
